Like most girls, Samantha wanted her wedding to be absolutely perfect, so she teamed up with her fiancé Taylor to find a venue in Mexico and prepared to fly all their friends and family in for their nuptials. Everything was going perfect until Samantha’s mother’s health flared up right when she was about to sign the contract for the wedding venue.

Samantha’s mother Kathy suffers from multiple sclerosis, and her symptoms started worsening as her daughter’s wedding date drew closer. Samantha knew she needed her mother to be at her wedding, so she cancelled her location in Mexico and moved the wedding to the United States. Things only got worse when Kathy’s health got so bad that she was rushed to the hospital, and Samantha’s wedding plans quickly deteriorated.

Samantha quit her job and moved closer to Kathy so that she could become her mother’s caretaker. As she took care of her mother, Samantha researched weddings that were quick and cheap. This was much different than the destination wedding she dreamed of, but she figured she simply did not have time for a huge wedding anymore.

Samantha eventually told Taylor to marry her in a backyard somewhere or the courthouse, as she wanted her mom to be there. Taylor knew her too well, however, so he knew a courtroom wedding would never satisfy her.

Taylor encouraged Samantha to enter the annual Dream Wedding contest hosted by The Knot. After Samantha put her heart and soul into the application, she learned that she had won the grand prize! The Knot agreed to pay all of their wedding expenses, but Samantha and Taylor had no idea another surprise was waiting for them…

The couple decided they wanted their first song as a married couple to be “Love You Like That” by country legend Canaan Smith.

“We chose a song that’s very catered toward us as a couple. Not one of the traditional first dance songs,” Samantha said.

“Just listening to the song makes us both smile and reminds us of each other and our love for one another,” Taylor added.

The wedding went off without a hitch, and Kathy was even able to come! As Samantha and Taylor got on the dance floor to have their first dance, however, the band failed them and stopped playing. Thinking her reception had been ruined, Samantha was about to cry, but then the band’s singer announced, “We have a better idea.”

Out of nowhere, Canaan Smith himself walked in to perform his song for the couple’s first dance! They were not expecting this in a million years!
