Tate (short for Potate) was a stray dog who spent years living on the streets before she was finally rescued by Hailee Graham and her husband. Tate now gets all the food, comfort, and love that she deserves from her new owners!

Around the same time Hailee brought Tate home, her neighbors got a dog named Vernon, who was around the same age as Tate. The two dogs immediately became best friends, and they have been inseparable ever since!

Though a fence separated Tate and Vernon’s houses, they weren’t about to let that keep them apart! The dogs dug in the area of the fence, desperately trying to make a tunnel to see each other.

“I walk outside and catch them digging a tunnel to each other. We couldn’t get them to stop,” Hailee said. “We couldn’t keep them apart. They would just keep digging holes to each other.”

Finally, Hailee came up with a brilliant idea to help Tate and Vernon be together.

“I thought, ‘Why not just put a door in the fence, so they can play whenever, and their humans don’t have to get involved?’” she said.

Hailee’s husband ended up setting up a doggy door in the fence, and the pets could not love it more!

“They love being together! I don’t know if they are actually in love, but I like to think so,” Hailee said.

“I hope that it encourages people to be more friendly with their neighbors, and encourage a sense of community. It has worked out well for us so far,” Hailee concluded.
