Millions of men stress about losing their hair, but a new study has revealed that they have no reason to worry!
A scientific study has just found that men with cleanly shaved heads are seen as more mature, successful, masculine and more intelligent. The study revealed that being bald also increases your perceived height by about an inch, and people with a lack of hair are seen as more socially dominant, without feeling threatening.
Carried out by the University of Pennsylvania, the study also found that women believe that balder men are more masculine and stronger. Hollywood A-list stars Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson would certainly agree that being bald has not hampered their careers at all.
In the study, around 60 people were shown multiple comparison images of a couple of men. The first photo showed men with a normal amount of hair on their head, while the second one showed the same men completely bald. The second photos were digitally altered but were a good representation of that person without hair.
Researchers at Barry University in Florida have speculated about why baldness was continually evolving.
“I speculated that male pattern baldness evolved as an appeasement signal and signaled benign, non-threatening dominance,” said Dr. Frank Muscarella.
“It could be speculated that although the characteristic of baldness decreases a man’s perceived physical attractiveness, it increases his perceived social dominance,” Dr. Muscarella added. “There is a large body of literature that shows that although women like physically attractive men, they are also very attracted to signs of high social dominance.”
It looks like being bald certainly has its advantages!
