Like many kids do on a nice warm day, four-year-old Elianna was enjoying the afternoon splashing in her grandmother’s pool with a friend while her mother, Lacey Grace watched over the activities. The two were playing with pool noodles when water shot up out of one right into Eliana’s throat.

The girls had been blowing in the pool noodle and by coincidence, they both went to blow in it at the same time. Elianna vomited from getting the pool water in her throat, but went on about her activities like nothing had happened.

A couple days after the pool incident, Elianna developed a fever. Lacey Grace didn’t think too much of it. When the school called and told her that Elianna’s fever had returned, Lacey Grace headed to pick her up. In the back of her mind, she remembered reading a story about a little boy that had a pool accident.

The dad had told about his son who had swallowed a bunch of pool water and had later passed away. Lacey Grace was determined that wasn’t going to happen to her daughter so she immediately took her to the doctor after picking her up from school.

Lacey Grace recalled the incident to the doctor who agreed that Elianna was in danger and immediately sent her to the emergency room. Elianna was admitted to the hospital and later transferred to a big hospital for inflammation and infection from the chemicals in the pool water.

Elianna was on oxygen and antibiotics and her breathing was dependant on the extra oxygen. Her heart rate was dangerously high and her lips were turning blue. Little by little Elianna’s condition improved, but Lacey Grace says she wants to get the word out about what happened to her daughter.

She says she also wants to thank the dad who took the time to share his story about his son, because without his story, Lacey Grace might not have thought that’s what could have been wrong with Elianna and her daughter might not have received help in time.
