Stress is an unfortunate part of life. There are a lot of causes of stress, but the toll it takes on your body can really cause some major health problems. Your body has plenty of signs warning you that you are under too much stress and need to take measures to try to reduce your stress levels.

While some of the signs your body sends may be hard to notice, there are ones that you may notice if you were made aware of them. Check out these 16 signs that show you are way too stressed out.

1. Body Pain – High levels of stress can result in your body starting to break down. This can cause stomach issues, diarrhea, ulcers, chest and muscle pain. A recent study compared 16 people with chronic back pain and those with the highest levels of the stress hormone cortisol were more likely to have chronic back pain.

2. Not Sleeping Well – When tossing and turning at night becomes a frequent problem, there are plenty of remedies to fix the problem. One of the biggest things that contribute to sleeping problems is stress. Try reducing your stress to see if you start getting a better night’s rest.

3. Weight Fluctuations – If you notice a change in your appetite, whether you are eating more or less, you may be stressed. If your body is under a lot of stress, it is even more important to eat healthy foods because your metabolism may slow down.

4. Constant Worrying – Stress can sometimes feel like it has a hold on your life when your problems won’t leave your thoughts. This constant worrying won’t likely come to an end unless you do something about it.

5. Restlessness – Restlessness and agitation are often signs of stress. In most cases, it is brought on by provocation, for example if you are stressed at work or school, you may be more likely to become restless or agitated there.

6. Loss of Libido – During stressful periods, people often experience a change in their libido. Studies show that women who experience higher levels of stress are less likely to get aroused. The main reason is the increase in cortisol.

7. Acne – When someone is feeling stressed out, they tend to touch their face more which leads to a bigger spread of bacteria and contributes to acne. Studies have linked more stress to an increase in acne.

8. Headaches – Studies show that stressful events are likely to proceed the development of a headache in some 45 percent of the 267 people studied that suffer from chronic headaches. This means that stress could be causing your chronic headaches.

9. Aching Mouth – If your mouth is constantly sore when you wake up each morning, it could be because you are stressed and grinding your teeth in your sleep. According to the American Dental Association, teeth grinding can become worse when you are under a lot of stress.

10. Strange Dreams – If you’re in a good mood and not under a lot of stress, your dreams are more likely to be pleasant, but if you are having strange and unpleasant dreams, it could be because your body is under a lot of stress.

11. Sweet Tooth – Studies shows that after women reach menopause, there is only a small decrease in chocolate cravings. Researchers believe that it could be stress that trigger a woman’s craving for chocolate or other junk food.

12. Itchy Skin – One study of over 2,000 people found that those who had chronic itchy skin were twice as likely to be stressed out in comparison to those who didn’t have itchy skin.

13. Worse Than Normal Allergies – Studies found that people who suffer from allergies experience more severe symptoms after taking an anxiety-inducing test than when they performed a test that didn’t stress them out. Stress hormones may have the ability to stimulate IgE, a blood protein that causes allergic reactions.

14. Frequent Sickness – Studies show there may be a link between stress and a weakened immune system. In a study involving 61 adults, people injected with the flu vaccine that were already suffering from chronic stress were found to have a weakened immune response to the vaccine.

15. Fast Heartbeat – Another stress symptom you may experience is an increase in heart rate. Studies have shown that people have significantly higher heart rates during stressful activities than those who participated in activities that are less likely to cause stress.

16. Sweating – We all know that sweating can be caused by an increase in exercise and physical activity, but it can also be caused by stress. Studies show that people who suffer from excess sweating in the hands experience significantly more sweating when they are under stress.

We all have to endure some stress in life, there’s no way around that unfortunately. However, if we can recognize these signs of being over stressed, it can empower us to take better care of our health by finding ways to curb our stress level.
