We all know how important drinking enough water is for our body. Our body is made up of nearly 60 percent water after all. It is essential for life, and there are signs that your body gives you when you are not getting enough water, but do you know what they are? Here are the signs you need to up your water intake.

1. Change in your urine color. If your urine has become darker in color, or even brown, it can be a sign that you are dehydrated and need to get more water in your system.

2. Frequency of urination. If it’s been several hours and you haven’t urinated, you could be dehydrated. You should urinate at least 2-3 times per day if you are getting enough water.

3. Dry skin. You skin needs water to be smooth and soft. Dry skin is a clear sign that you are not drinking enough water.

4. Hunger. We may often feel like we’re hungry, but in reality, it is just your body trying to tell you that you are thirsty. Take a drink of water and see if your hunger disappears.

5. Irritability. Another common sign of mild dehydration is irritability.

6. Fatigue. People who don’t have enough water in their bodies are often sleepy during the day.

7. Headaches. These are a common sign of dehydration. If the pain worsens when you bend down to pick something up, move up or down stairs, or move fast, your body is lacking water.

8. Dry mouth. A lack of water reduces the amount of saliva your body produces and can lead to a dry mouth. If this happens frequently, it can damage your throat and mouth.

9. Arm and leg cramps. Dehydration can lead to cramping of the muscles, most often in the arms and legs.

10. Dizziness. When the body is lacking too many fluids, it might cause you to feel lightheaded or dizzy. Drink a glass of water and the symptoms will likely be reduced.

More severe dehydration will cause even more symptoms than those listed above. They may include fast or weak pulse, sunken eyes, poor skin elasticity, low blood pressure, fainting, stomach bloating, convulsions, severe muscle cramps, heart failure, sunken and dry eyes, and rapid or deep breathing.

Chronic dehydration can lead to a variety of health issues including high cholesterol levels, confusion, anxiety, heartburn, constipation, urinary tract infections, and premature aging.

The prevention of all of these symptoms is quite simple. To support your overall health and proper body functions, you just need to stay hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of pure water daily.
