Life is a huge challenge for those who suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Not only is the sufferer themselves affected but those who love them are impacted as well, as they have to watch their loved one slowly lose grip with reality.

After watching her grandmother struggle with dementia for years, Lillie Downing made the agonizing decision to take her to a nursing home. Lillie took extra care to make sure her grandmother was comfortable with the entire situation. She was never expecting another patient to respond to her grandma so warmly.

Lillie was so touched by what happened that she took to Twitter to share it.

“Took my Nan to her new care home today that’s for people with dementia, she met a lady who had the same name as her and they held hands the whole time they watched TV,” Lillie wrote. “The lady on the left (Gladys) repeatedly said to my Nan, ‘Don’t worry, you’ve got me now.'”

This stranger went out of her way to make sure Lillie’s grandma felt comfortable and loved in her new home. Even though Gladys probably suffered from dementia herself, she could still recognize that the new resident at the home needed a friend. We need a whole lot more of this love and support in the world!

Lillie’s tweet has gone viral in just under two weeks, being liked by 120,000 users and retweeted 15,000 times! It’s clear that her emotional story touched many people all over the world.
